[Field News] Ethiopia suffers nationwide power outage... Half Recovery

Updated: 6 days ago

Ethiopia's national broadcaster reported on Sunday evening (local time) that the country's power grid had failed, causing a nationwide blackout.

Ethiopia's power company said it had restored electricity to half the country, including most of the capital Addis Ababa, at around 10:20 p.m., according to AFP.

Located in the horn-shaped part of Africa, Ethiopia is home to 120 million people, Africa's second most populous country.

The power company said the first turbine from the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile River began generating electricity in February 2022, and a second turbine began generating electricity in August of that year.

“I do not accept glory from human beings, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. (John 5:41-42)

Ethiopia, Africa's second most populous country, reports a nationwide power outage that has been halfway restored.

When the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile River begins generating power in February 2022, it is expected to become a power hub for East Africa, but the outage has shaken confidence in its power exports and has also raised Ethiopia's diplomatic profile.

The controversy over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam continues today, and the conflict between Ethiopia and Egypt over control of the Nile River is unlikely to end.

Lord, as the Ethiopian people have sought to take the glory of East Africa by profiting from power generation amidst all the controversies, please reveal that all this is in vain.

Rather, we ask that You will be the true light among the Ethiopian souls who have had to spend dark nights because the country could not even handle the amount of electricity it was supposed to use and the power was never restored.

Help the Ethiopian people to realize the love of God who gave them light and water with no strings attached, and through this, help them to become a people who will impact Africa with the gospel of truth and the word of life, and nothing else.

I believe that the faith of the Ethiopian eunuch who followed Philip and accepted the gospel in baptism flows through the Ethiopian church to this day. May we become a people who act decisively in the face of the gospel, like the Ethiopian eunuch who, when he realized the truth, asked to be baptized without any hesitation.

From then on, let the faith that loved God be restored and become a river of life, serving the African peoples along the Nile, the Egyptian people who are currently in conflict over the Nile, and the Ethiopian people who are serving the nations!
