[Field News] Tragedy in Darfur, Sudan... “At least 56 people killed as armed conflict intensifies”

At least 56 people were killed in fierce fighting between government forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, the capital of Sudan's North Darfur region, the aid group Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on the 16th.

According to the U.S. CNN, Doctors Without Borders reported that as the fighting intensified, 454 injured people entered El Pasher Southern Hospital between the 10th and 15th of this month, and 56 of them died.

Doctors Without Borders is concerned that the number of injuries and deaths could increase as fighting continues. The aid group reported that North Darfur was a relatively safe area compared to other regions, but fighting intensified as RSF surrounded El Fasher.

Previously, the Yale University School of Public Health's Humanitarian Research Center (HRL) announced in a report released on the 15th that serious damage occurred as the SAF and RSF engaged in intense ground fighting and artillery fire near El Passer between the 10th and 14th.

Clementine Ngweta-Salami, the UN's special representative for Sudan, also said on the same day that clashes intensified in El Pasher, putting the entire city at risk.

The U.S. State Department announced sanctions against two RSF commanders, saying that RSF's military activities in Yell Pasher are threatening hundreds of thousands of civilians.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that due to the armed conflict between SAF and RSF that began in April last year, 8.8 million people have been forced to flee their homes and 24.8 million people are in need of assistance.

May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, “God is great!” But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay! (Psalm 70:4-5)

We hear news of casualties from the intensifying armed conflict in Darfur, Sudan.

We desire that all fierce battles will end as soon as possible and God’s peace will come. May God have mercy upon those who have lost their safe homes and may He meet all souls, who is their help and deliverer.

We pray that the intense ground fighting and artillery warfare will end quickly. Please guide those who have left their homes to take refuge, return home safely.

We pray that they will seek God. Let them be the souls of Darfur who reach out to God, who does not turn away all who seek Him! Let them change into people who worship only the Lord!
