[Field Story] “163 illegal immigrants rescued in Libyan waters last week” - IOM

The UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on the 27th (local time) that the number of illegal migrants in the Mediterranean rescued near the coast of Libya over the past week reached 163.

“Between November 19th and 25th, 163 illegal immigrants were rescued at sea and returned to Libya,” IOM said.

(Omitted)

So far this year, the number of illegal immigrants rescued at sea near Libya in the central Mediterranean and returned to Libya is 15,057, with 947 dead and 1,256 missing.

In 2022, the number of rescued refugees was 24,684, with 529 dead and 848 missing.

Libya has been a departure point for African migration to Europe since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's dictatorship in 2011.

As most migrants cross the Mediterranean in flimsy small ships or boats to reach the European coast, deaths and disappearances continue to increase.

7 But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. 8 Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me. (Micah 7:7-8)

Lord, the savior of Libya, we see that due to the civil war that has continued for 10 years since the end of the long dictatorship, and the unstable situation and economy that have continued even after the end of the civil war, the souls of Libya are still risking their lives to board ships heading to Europe.

To make matters worse, sadness and pain in Libya has increased due to the great flood that hit this land last September, and we hear that the number of deaths and disappearances among refugees heading to Europe in desperate situations has increased compared to last year.

They risk their lives and head to Europe in search of a better life, but we confess that the only one who can truly save them is our Lord Jesus.

Lord, although they are currently lying distraught in darkness, we believe that You will surely raise up Libya and become the light of Libya.

Would You listen to the pain of those who have no hope in this world and are throwing their lives away on the sea with death in sight, and show them Jesus Christ, who has already died on the cross to save them.

Would You help Libya look to God who saves them and come with a broken and contrite heart before that amazing cross.

So now, let Libya open their lips to give glory and praise to our Lord, who gave hope for eternal heaven, and let Libya spread the grace of the Lord among all nations dying from not knowing the truth!
