[Field Story] UN: "Ruins in southern Lebanon...similar to Gaza"

The UN pointed out that the southern part of Lebanon, where Israeli airstrikes are continuing, is approaching ruins like the Gaza Strip.

It continued, "The villages they have vacated are close to ruins," and "In most cases, people have had to leave their homes within hours of the evacuation order being issued."

It said that a sharp increase in civilian casualties, overcrowding in shelters, food shortages, and destruction of agricultural land have been observed.

The World Food Programme ( WFP ) of the United Nations announced on the 8th (local time) in a briefing statement containing the results of an on-site inspection that "recent airstrikes have displaced hundreds of thousands of people in seven districts of southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut."

WFP emphasized that "many Lebanese people said they are leaving not simply because their homes will be destroyed, but because they have lost loved ones and communities," and that "those who have watched the Gaza Strip move with similar fears and wounds in their hearts."

The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon reported byWFP showed similar aspects to what the Gaza Strip has been experiencing.

Matthew Hollingwort, WFP's regional director for Lebanon who inspected the site in Lebanon, said, "In a country already suffering from an economic crisis, the situation in which 25 percent of the population is displaced is difficult to handle," and emphasized, "We must ease tensions and find a diplomatic and political solution."

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. (Psalm 95:1-3)

Heavenly Father, who controls and governs history, we hear today from the war-torn people of Lebanon.

As southern Lebanon, under constant Israeli bombardment, approaches the same devastation as Gaza, hundreds of thousands have been displaced. May the God who feeds the birds of the sky provide for their needs and shelter them.

Lord, have compassion on the people of Lebanon, who are terrorized by war, starving, and without a place to stay, and protect them with your flaming eyes, so that they may seek you.

Father God, who is greater than all gods, in this time of need and with nowhere else to turn, cause the people of Lebanon to come to You and cause more souls than ever before to turn to You and be saved.

To the human eye, the war seems to never end, but we believe that You are in control of all history.

Let the world church continue to pray together in the heart of God, and let the global church rise up for You and the gospel in these times of famine and war, preparing the way for Your coming, as the end draws near.
