According to the Iraqi government, at least 16 people, including civilians, were killed in this airstrike.
A spokesman for the Iraqi prime minister said the airstrikes were a "violation" of Iraqi sovereignty and would "impact the security and stability of Iraq and the surrounding region."
Syria said the US "occupation" of its territory "cannot continue."
The U.S. Central Command announced in a statement that it had carried out airstrikes against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force and its affiliated militias in Iraq and Syria.
Several American fighter planes were involved, including long-range bombers flown from the United States.
The U.S. military said that a total of 7 facilities and more than 85 targets, including 4 in Syria and 3 in Iraq, were attacked in this airstrike. There were no attacks within Iranian territory.

US President Joe Biden said US attacks "will continue at a time and place of our choosing", adding: "The United States does not pursue conflict anywhere in the world, including in the Middle East."
Previously, three American soldiers were killed and dozens injured in a drone attack on a U.S. military base near the border between Jordan and Syria.
U.S. government officials said the attack was the work of the Islamic Resistance Movement, a pro-Iranian militia, and that the drones involved in the attack were produced in Iran and were similar to weapons supplied to Russia.
This armed group, comprised of multiple militias, is believed to be supplied with weapons, trained, and funded by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Iran denied any role in the attack on the U.S. military base, saying it had "no involvement in the decisions of the resistance movement organizations."
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman mentioned Israel, a US ally, and said that the US's attacks in Iraq, Syria and Yemen were "merely in service for the goals of the Zionist regime."
Russian diplomat at the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy said on social media that Russia convened an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council "as peace and security are threatened by the US attack on Syria and Iraq." Russia, a permanent member of the United Nations, has become a close ally of Iran.

“We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.” (Mark 10: 33-34)
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:48)
We exalt the name of Jesus, who took upon all suffering to save us.
Currently, several countries, including Iraq, Iran, Syria, and the United States, are carrying out retaliatory attacks against each other.
They say they attack to protect their country, but revenge only leads to more revenge and this problem can never be resolved.
Jesus, you were scourged and crucified for our wickedness and transgressions.
But this world does not recognize that Jesus’ suffering was for them.
God, please forgive them.
Please help these conflicting nations to realize their sins and put an end to the pointless strife that only leads to death!
We believe that the power of life that can break all the powers of death lies only in the name of Jesus!
Lord, grant these people the peace of Jesus Christ and the work of salvation!
Please let the churches of these nations rise up and cry out to the Lord, and let the world churches together proclaim the peace of Jesus over these peoples!
