[Today’s Prayer] "2 million people will cross the border..." Egypt's anxiety over Trump's 'Gaza cleanup'

As US President Donald Trump pressures Palestinian residents to move out of the Gaza Strip with his plan for a ceasefire, there is growing anxiety in Egypt, which borders the country, that the sparks of war could spread.

According to the BBC on the 14th (local time), Egyptian residents felt threatened as President Trump attempted to relocate more than 2 million Gazans to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan.

President Trump declared that he would place the Gaza Strip under U.S. authority based on the ceasefire plan he had been boasting about since before taking office, and threatened to cut off aid to Egypt and Jordan if they did not accept Palestinians.

There is growing discontent within Egypt over the idea.

This is because Egypt already hosts more than 100,000 Gazans and is thought to be deeply involved in the war in the Gaza Strip.

Egyptians gathered for Friday prayers at a mosque in Cairo on Friday criticized President Trump's plan.

“The front line will be moved to our land,” said Abdo, a resident who works as a civil engineer. “The Israeli army and the Palestinian resistance are eternal enemies and there is no peace between them. This will give Israel an excuse to attack our land in the name of self-defense.”

There was also an opinion that relocating Gaza residents would be tantamount to liquidating the creation of a Palestinian state, and that accepting more refugees could make Egypt a stronghold for the Palestinian armed group Hamas.

Ahmed Moussa, a prominent Egyptian talk show host, recently argued that US military aid is "of no value to Egypt" and that pressure should be rejected.

Egypt, which supports the Palestinian “two-state solution” like other Arab countries, has already expressed its opposition to the forced relocation of Gaza residents on several occasions. On the 11th, it announced that it would present a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:14)

Loving God, we hear with sad news that the people of Egypt feel threatened by the prospect of more than two million Palestinian Gaza residents being displaced to Egypt and Jordan as envisioned by U.S. President Trump.

Lord, we ask that You know the deep pain and loss that the people of Gaza are experiencing and that You comfort their hearts. In the midst of a long war and conflict with Israel, the lives of the people of Gaza are always in instability and suffering.

Only You can give true peace to the souls of Gaza. May Your peace reign in the hearts of the people of Gaza, and may their current suffering be restored and healed according to Your will.

Lord, we ask that You give the Arab leaders, the United States, and Israel who are deciding on the Gaza disengagement the wisdom of Your heart, as You gave to Cyrus, to make a just and peaceful decision according to Your will, so that the suffering people of Gaza may be guided to the highest and best path that You will lead.

Help the Churches in Egypt to extend Your kingdom by serving the people of Gaza. Help us to entrust the conflict and unrest in Egypt to You, and to pray and serve with the people of Gaza as they struggle to find a way to live their lives.

Help us to share Your love with the refugees of Gaza, who cross the border in search of a little food and hope for survival. Grant that the Palestinian people may be saved by faith in You through the Gospel, and that all pain and wounds may be healed by the love of the cross of Jesus.

And may they be a holy people to the Lord, called my people, as Isaiah 19 says!

May the Palestinian people also come before You in the end times and rise up as a nation to bear the final revival, and may Palestine be the nation that all nations and Israel come before You!
