[Today's Prayer] British Christian teacher sentenced to third prison term for refusing to use transgender pronouns

A Christian teacher who has been in a long-running dispute with a school for refusing to use a transgender student's preferred pronouns has been sentenced to a third prison term.

Enoch Burke was arrested on Monday after ignoring a court order to stay away from Wilson's Hospital School in County Westmeath, Ireland.

A judge at the High Court in Dublin ordered Burke to be sent back to Mount Joy Prison for contempt of court. Burke has previously been jailed twice for continuing to attend school despite court restraining orders.

He was suspended by the school in August 2022 after refusing to use a transgender student's new name and the pronoun "they". The school sought a court order to have him removed from the campus after he repeatedly said he was ready to teach.

He was sent to Mount Joy Prison in September 2022 after refusing to comply with a court order banning him from entering school grounds.

He was later released but returned to Dublin Prison in September last year after continuing to attend school. He was later released in June this year but was warned not to attend school as the court order remained in place. However, Burke defied the court order again and attended school at the start of the new term on August 22.

“I have spent over 400 days in prison now and it is very difficult,” he told Sky News. “I have my religious freedom. I teach everyone in front of me.”

He added: “When I was given the order, when I was told I could no longer have religious beliefs, when I was told I had to profess my belief in transgenderism instead of just believing that I was male or female, it was just a violation of my rights.”

The case is due to be heard on October 11.

Please forgive and have mercy on this generation that has not understood the truth,

and is now covered in wounds.

Please have mercy on the people who do not understand the words of Jesus, who is the truth, and are deceived by Satan and are walking on the path to destruction.

And by Your grace, let them now meet Jesus, who is the truth,

and walk on the path to life!

Please let them discern and overcome the world with the word of Jesus!
