[Today's Prayer]“Civilian fatality rate, average in conflicts of the 20th century

An Israeli study found out that civilians are accounted for 61% of the deaths, at Israel airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, attack from the Palestinian armed faction Hamas last October. 

On the 9th (local time), the British Guardian, citing the Israeli daily Haaretz, reported that Israel's air raid on the Gaza Strip resulted in the highest number of civilian casualties in recent years.

According to an analysis by Professor Yagil Levy of Israel's Open University, civilians accounted for 61% of all deaths in the first three weeks of Israel's retaliatory airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, following Hamas' surprise attack on October 7.

This percentage is much higher than when civilian deaths averaged about half of all conflicts in the 20th century.

In addition, this rate is higher than in past cases of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Israel's three operations against the Gaza Strip over the past 10 years from 2012 to 2022, the proportion of civilians casualties was approximately 40% out of the whole death rate. 

Last May, during Israel's Operation Shield and Arrows, which targeted the Palestinian armed group Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip, the civilian death rate fell to 33% overall.

Professor Levy described Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip over the first three weeks as 'unprecedented killings.'

He said, “The broad conclusion is that large-scale civilian killings goes not help Israel’s security, but can further serve as a foundation for weakening security.” He added, “The Gaza residents who lost their homes and families cannot be stopped by any security measures.” He predicted, “I will seek revenge.”

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, where the majority of deaths are civilian, was ultimately resulted in the highest civilian death rate in the past 20th century.

This place is broken, sorrow due to loosing everything and filled with heartbreak

Would you destroy the opposition the resolution of the ceasefire and the enemy's work creating conflict.

Jesus, who broke the power of death through the cross, would you reign as king of eternal peace on this earth.

As the world is paying attention to this place and raising their voice for a ceasefire, let the conflict between the two nations be clam as the global church prays.

Jesus Christ, who took all the responsibility of sins in this land and bore the cross. Would you be a song of hope to the souls of the suffering and groaning Gaza.
