[Today’s Prayer] Indonesian volcano eruption kills 9, injures 63, and 16,000 evacuated

The death toll from a volcanic eruption in Indonesia's eastern Lesser Sunda Islands has risen to nine, and about 16,000 residents are being evacuated.

According to Antara News Agency and other sources on the 5th (local time), the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency announced that the death toll from the eruption of Mount Rakiraki in eastern Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province, had increased to 9, and that approximately 16,000 residents from villages around the volcano were being evacuated as the eruption continued.

The volcano, which began erupting on the night of the 3rd, also had a small eruption on the night of the 4th.

The explosion sent ash plumes 2 km into the air from the crater, and hot, dark brown ash blanketed nearby villages, burning and collapsing several homes.

The East Nusa Tenggara provincial government also declared a 58-day state of emergency and evacuated 16,000 residents from eight villages near the volcano to temporary shelters about 20 km away. However, as thick volcanic ash piles up on the roads, driving is difficult, and it is taking time for residents to evacuate.

He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David had done. He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it (It was called Nehushtan). (2 Kings 18:3-4)

God, we hear that a volcanic eruption in Indonesia has killed nine people and injured 63, and many have fleeted the disaster.

We ask that You would visit the people of Indonesia in this time of natural disaster and comfort their hearts.

We ask you to allow the hands of salvation to the people who fear death at any moment and have lost their families and homes.

May their suffering be restored by the love of Jesus.

For a people who currently serve and follow Islam because they do not know You, but who, like King Hezekiah, will cast down their idols and become an honest people in Your sight.

In these last days of famine, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other natural disasters, may the people of Indonesia come to the cross of Jesus and experience the love and prepare for the final coming of the Lord!
