[Today's Prayer] Monsoon Rains Cause Devastation in Northern India, 25 Lives Lost in a Single Day

Continuous heavy rains from the monsoon(rainy) season have caused a series of damages in northern regions of India, resulting in the loss of 25 lives in a single day.

According to Indian media outlets, including The Times of India, on the 13th, landslides and floods occurred in northern states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh due to the monsoon rains. At least 25 people lost their lives in the affected regions the previous day.

As a result, the total number of fatalities in the affected regions due to the ongoing monsoon rains has increased to 116.

Notably, among the 25 reported deaths on May 12, 13 were from Uttarakhand. State officials explained that out of the 13 fatalities, 9 died from drowning, while the others lost their lives due to lightning strikes, snake bites, and collapsing of houses.

The meteorological department issued a yellow alert for 58 districts across the entire state and announced another heavy rainfall to be expected on the 13th.

While the number of fatalities continues to rise due to the monsoon rains, local authorities are accelerating rescue and evacuation measures to prevent additional casualties.

Subodh Uniyal, the Deputy Chief Minister, stated that around 25,000 people who were stranded in the worst-hit Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh have been safely evacuated.

Officials from the state government mentioned that it was not an easy task to rescue approximately 300 individuals in tent camps near the Chandra Tal Lake, located at an altitude of over 4,200 meters in Lahaul and Spiti. To get to the individuals who were mostly tourists, rescue teams had to face temperatures below zero degrees and encounter one meter of snow to repair the road leading to the Chandra Tal Lake.

Relief camps have been set up in various parts of Himachal Pradesh to accommodate those who have lost their homes due to flooding and landslides. As of now, a total of 873 roads in the state are still blocked, and 1,956 transformers and 1,369 water supply devices are not functioning properly.

In Himachal Pradesh, where bridges and houses were swept away by floods, authorities have deployed helicopters for rescue operations. In Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand, where roads were submerged, rescue teams used rubber boats to save people trapped in their homes.

In Uttarakhand, major highways have been closed due to landslides. State officials reported that a car carrying five individuals slipped off the road and fell into a nearby river, resulting in one death and two missing. In Uttarakhand, as floods caused chaos in 14 districts with more than 1,000 villages and towns, at least 11 people lost their lives by May 12.

In Punjab, flood alerts were issued in areas including Patankot, and around 400 residents in villages near the Ravi River of Gurdaspur were rescued by military forces. Additionally, due to the overflowing of the Ghaggar River, several villages in the Sangrur area were also submerged.

In neighboring Haryana, the number of deaths related to the rain-related incidents increased to 11 as four bodies were discovered in Ambala City on the 12th.

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)

Lord,

Among the reports of global chaos and disasters, we hear the unfortunate news of numerous casualties in India due to heavy rainfall.

This rainfall is expected to continue, and there are concerns that more lives may be lost due to India's weak infrastructure and rescue systems.

God, remember the suffering souls in India and have mercy on them that the heavy rainfall and flooding will come to an end soon.

May those that are in crisis no longer hear the reports of death, but may the good news of life reach them faster than death, that they may be the ones to rejoice in the eternal salvation.

According to your word, the gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations. May you fulfill your word and may the people of India come to know the name of Jesus, the eternal King, and become a people who turn away from serving countless false idols, to serve the one, true God!

Our God, who will surely fulfill your word, may our eyes witness India rise up along with all the nations in the end times, to proclaim “Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!”
