Two large mass graves were discovered in Syria on the 17th (local time). It is believed that those tortured or killed by the Bashar al-Assad regime, which was ousted by rebels, are buried there.

According to Reuters, the mass graves are located in Qutaifa, about 40km north of the capital Damascus. This is also the area where a detention facility was located.

After visiting the mass grave site, Stephen Rapp, the U.S. ambassador for war crimes, said that more than 100,000 people under the Assad regime have disappeared or died since 2013 alone by the state-run 'death organization.'
