[Today’s Prayer] More than 150 Christians Killed in Plateau State, Nigeria

Fulani terrorists in Plateau state, Nigeria killed more than 150 Christians in the first three weeks of June, including a church pastor, sources said. Residents of Mangu, Barkin Ladi and Riyom counties said the terrorists destroyed dozens of houses belonging to Christians, along with a COCIN worship building, in the first three weeks of the month.

“They attacked our villages of Bwoi and Chisu while we were sleeping at about 11 p.m. The herdsmen burnt down our houses, including a church worship building of the COCIN and the offices of the COCIN Regional Council in Bwoi. Some of the Christian victims were burnt alive in their houses as the herdsmen set fire on their houses.”

“The terrorists are just attacking and killing Christians in most of the communities around Mangu. The attacks started on Tuesday, 20 June, in the Bwoi community, and then spread to Mangu town and Sabon Gari areas. Christians here really need help.” Also on June 20, in Riyom County herdsmen ambushed and killed six Christians in Rahoss-Sambak village as mourners transported the corpse of an accident victim to their village for burial, said area resident Christopher Pam.

Nigeria led the world in Christians killed for their faith in 2022, with 5,014, according to Open Doors’ 2023 World Watch List (WWL) report.

It also led the world in Christians abducted (4,726), sexually assaulted or harassed, forcibly married or physically or mentally abused, and it had the most homes and businesses attacked for faith-based reasons. As in the previous year, Nigeria had the second most church attacks and internally displaced people.

In the 2023 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian, Nigeria jumped to sixth place, its highest ranking ever, from No. 7 the previous year.

Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. (Matt 12:29)

God, we hear the unfortunate news that more than 150 Christians, including a pastor, have been killed in an extreme Muslim attack in Nigeria.

We place the Nigerian church and our Christian brothers and sisters in the hands of the Lord. Please have mercy on your people who are being killed by constant attacks and persecution.

Lord, at this time when rumors of tribulation and turmoil are increasing, please comfort the souls of Nigeria who are suffering in the name of Jesus and increase their faith so that we can become a church that overcomes with the gospel.

Please also have pity on the extremist Islamic forces who persecute and try to exterminate the church and Christians. All Islamic ideologies and spiritual strongholds, which have risen against God, must be destroyed and would you only reign with the kingdom of God.

Through the church of faith, let the land of Nigeria become a nation that fears Jehovah God and confesses with faith that “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Help them to become a nation that overcomes the power of death and follows the path of the cross that you walked with joy, without fear, in the face of suffering, imprisonment and even death.

And now, as you give revival to Nigeria, grant us mission revival like we have never seen before so that we can boldly proclaim the time of favour, the day of salvation, in Africa and all nations!
