He death toll from the earthquake in Myanmar on the 28th of last month has increased to around 3,500.
According to Reuters and Xinhua News Agency on the 6th, the Myanmar military junta announced through state-run media that day that the death toll was 3,471 and the injured 4,671. The number of missing people was counted at 214.
Military leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing announced the previous day that 5,223 buildings, 1,824 schools, 2,752 Buddhist temple lodgings, 4,817 temples and pagodas, 167 hospitals, 169 bridges, 198 dams, and 184 major highways were damaged by the earthquake.
Search operations are continuing with the help of the international community, but there has been no news of rescues for several days.
The UN said that as rain began to fall in some affected areas over the weekend, rescue efforts have become more difficult and more tents are needed for the evacuees living outdoors.
There are also concerns that the rain could spread infectious diseases such as cholera and cause secondary damage such as landslides.
Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief, who is visiting Myanmar, called for stronger and more united support, saying, “While the bodies of their loved ones are being pulled out of the rubble, families are living outdoors in fear of aftershocks.” Some
say that while China, Russia, and India are actively providing support, the presence of the US, which used to be the “leading aid provider,” is diminishing.
The military has continued its attacks on rebels since the earthquake and has carried out airstrikes even after a temporary ceasefire was declared on the 2nd, the UN and the National Unity Government ( NUG ), the interim government of the pro-democracy camp, said the previous day.
Meanwhile, in Thailand, where the new Audit Office building under construction in Bangkok collapsed due to the impact of the Myanmar earthquake, the death toll has risen to 24. 17 people died at the site of the collapsed Audit Office alone, and 77 are believed to be buried under the rubble.

For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. (1 Thessalonians 4:14)
We hear that the death toll from the strong earthquake in Myanmar is rising, and we pray that the Lord will be the only hope for those who we still don’t know if they are dead or alive.
As rain makes rescue efforts more difficult and epidemics are a concern, we desire for the Lord's hand to reach every earthquake victim and their families.
Despite the earthquake, there is unrelenting tension as the military continues to bomb rebels. We pray that You will quiet this land and send Your peace.
With the world coming together to help, we believe this is a time when prayer for this land is most needed.
As the global church prays together for the healing of this land in Jesus' name, let us see Your miracles and power come upon the land of Myanmar!
May the land of Myanmar resound with the voice of those who cry out for Your salvation! May the Lord, the giver of life and the power of resurrection, reign in the midst of this land!
