[Today's Prayer] Over 100 Armed Attacks in Pakistan in One Month... "Highest in 10 Years"

On the 4th, DPA Press reported that over 100 armed attacks occurred in Pakistan last month, marking the highest number of monthly attacks in about 10 years.

The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank located in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, announced in a report the previous day that there were 105 attacks by armed Islamist militants and separatist militants in March.

This is the highest number of monthly attacks in 9 years and 8 months since August 2015.

228 people were killed in armed attacks last month, of which 73 were police officers and 67 were civilians. 88 killed were armed militants. At least 258 were injured, half of whom were police officers and the other half being civilians.

The frequent armed attacks last month were analyzed to be due to increased suppression operations by the military and police, DPA reported.

Pakistani authorities claim that the Islamist extremist militant group Pakistan Taliban (TTP) is mainly active in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a Balochist separatist militant group, is mainly active in the southwestern province of Balochistan, and that they plan and execute attacks from their hideouts in neighboring Afghanistan.

Pakistani authorities have demanded that the Taliban regime, which effectively rules Afghanistan, take action against the TTP and others, but the Taliban has denied that the TTP and others have hideouts in Afghanistan.

Amid this, Pakistani authorities announced last month that they will pursue militants who commit attacks in the country to Afghanistan, raising concerns that tensions between the two countries may further escalate.
