[Today’s Prayer] Pakistani police shoot dead man arrested for blasphemy inside police station

A local official announced on the 12th that a police officer shot and killed a man named Saeed Khan, who was being held in a police station on charges of blasphemy, in Quetta, southwestern Pakistan.

Saeed Khan was lynched by an enraged mob on the 11th for insulting the Islamic prophet Muhammad, but was rescued by the police and held in the police station detention cell.

Police official Mohammad Khurram said the police officer who shot and killed Khan has been arrested, but he did not provide further details.

In Pakistan, it is common for accusations of blasphemy to cause riots that escalate to lynchings and murders, but the killing of a suspect in custody in a police station is very unusual and shocking.

Pakistan's blasphemy law allows for the death penalty for anyone convicted of insulting Islam or Muslims, but no death penalty has yet been handed down for blasphemy.

Even before Khan was killed at the police station, angry local residents had surrounded the station and staged a protest demanding that he be returned to face trial. Before Khan was killed, an angry man threw a grenade at the station, and police managed to disperse the angry protesters.

Lord, we hear that a precious soul in Pakistan has lost his life, deceived by the spirit of Islam and ignorant of the truth.

We hear that many souls in Pakistan are being driven to hell.

They do not know what they are doing. Forgive them and have mercy on them, for they are guilty of taking the life of a precious soul whom Jesus loved so much that He gave His life, and for they are deceived by the spirit of Islam, not knowing the truth, and rushing forward to follow it!

Father, save Pakistan from dying in ignorance of the one true God, Jesus Christ! Let every spirit of confusion in Pakistan be destroyed, in the name of Jesus! Let the light of the gospel of Christ's glory shine in the midst of all Pakistan.

Remove every veil from the eyes and ears of Pakistan that blinds them to the truth of Jesus Christ, that the name of Jesus Christ may be preached throughout all the lands and peoples of Pakistan!
