[Today's Prayer] Syrian Interim Government Forms Committee to Draft 'Constitutional Declaration'

The Syrian Interim Government's presidential office announced on the 2nd (local time) that it has formed an expert committee to draft a constitutional declaration.

In a statement, the presidential office explained, "This is in response to the aspirations of the Syrian people to establish a nation based on the rule of law and the results of the 'National Dialogue Conference,' a decision to create a legal framework that regulates the transitional phase."

The committee includes seven members, including one woman.

The presidential office stated that the committee will create a draft of the constitutional declaration and submit it to President Ahmed al-Shara. However, a specific deadline was not specified.

The National Dialogue Conference, which launched on the 25th of last month, includes about 600 representatives from civil society, religious circles, and various political factions, discussing the future of the Syrian state, including a new constitution and political and economic reforms.

In December of last year, President al-Shara, who led the rebel forces centered on the Islamist armed group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which he headed, declared the end of the civil war after ousting dictator Bashar al-Assad.

The interim government, which was subsequently established, elected al-Shara as interim president and declared the abolition of the existing constitution revised in 2012, as well as the dissolution of the People's Council (parliament) and the former ruling Ba'ath Party. President al-Shara is advocating for moderate policies, such as not forcing women to wear hijabs.
