[Today’s Prayer] Ukraine on the 1000th day of war: "Never surrender"... Russia: "Operations continue"

On the 19th (local time), the 1,000th day since the start of the Ukrainian war that has been weighing on the entire world, Ukraine and Russia reiterated their will to fight to the death.

According to AFP and Reuters, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that day, "Ukraine will never surrender to the occupying forces, and the Russian military will be punished for violating international law."

He added that calls are growing for the United States to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia to end the war, adding, “We need peace through strength, not appeasement.”

Russia also called for war rather than peace and negotiation.

“The military operation against Ukraine continues,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. “Western support cannot influence the outcome of our operation.”

“The operation is ongoing and will be completed,” he added. Russia has since called its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 a “special military operation” rather than a “war.”

Russia has recently stepped up its airstrikes against Ukraine. On this day, at least nine people were killed when an apartment building built during the Soviet era was destroyed in an airstrike in the Sumy region of northeastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a photo of rescue workers recovering bodies from the rubble on social media on the same day and urged Western allies to increase military support.

There are signs that the flames of war will spread further.

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him… And all people will see God’s salvation.’” (Luke 3:46)

Praise our God, the King who is coming soon. We hear that the war between Ukraine and Russia has been going on for a thousand days.

For a thousand days, countless people have been suffering and dying, and the governments are seeking peace by force, with neither side willing to yield an inch.

Lord, we pray that peace, not through force, but peace in the love of the cross of Jesus, will come and reign among the lands of Ukraine and Russia.

There are Orthodox Churches in this land. May the Orthodox Church rise up as a church that is not caught up in world events and hates one another, but loves one another before the gospel and prays for peace in Ukraine and Russia.

May all flesh in Ukraine and Russia see the saving grace of God.

And may the nations of Ukraine and Russia no longer be a land filled with innocent blood, but a land restored by the blood of Jesus on the cross, and where the voice of praise to You rings out!

Let the Ukrainian and Russian peoples rise up among all nations with the news of Jesus' salvation and love, not the news of war!
