[Today’s Prayer] Worst since 2006, deaths approaching 500… “I-Hezbollah almost all-out war”

Lebanon has faced its worst situation since the 2006 war as the Israeli military carried out carpet bombing targeting Hezbollah, a pro-Iran armed group that intervened militarily in the Gaza War, on the 23rd (local time).

The Israeli military said in a statement that day that it had carried out about 650 airstrikes across Lebanon in the past 24 hours, hitting more than 1,600 Hezbollah facilities.

"The main targets were Hezbollah's cruise missiles, short- and long-range rocket launchers, and attack drone launch sites," said Major General Daniel Hagari, the Israeli military's chief spokesman.

He then released a video showing that many of Hezbollah's offensive facilities were hidden in houses, and accused Hezbollah of "turning southern Lebanon into a war zone."

Lebanon's Health Ministry said at least 492 people, including 35 children and 58 women, have been killed and 1,645 wounded in the airstrikes.

The death toll in Lebanon from this bombing is nearly half the estimated 1,191 Lebanese casualties during the second Lebanon war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006, which lasted more than a month.

The Second Lebanon War, also known as the "July War," saw Israel and Hezbollah fighting for about a month before a ceasefire brokered by the United Nations.

This Israeli airstrike was concentrated in the south where Hezbollah facilities are concentrated, but it was also carried out in eastern areas such as Baelbek, which is more than 100 km from the border, and in the capital Beirut.

According to Lebanese state news agency NNA, three missiles struck the southern Beir al-Abed neighborhood of Beirut that evening. Hezbollah-backed outlet Al-Manar TV also reported that six people were wounded in the bombing.

Also in southern Lebanon, tens of thousands of refugees poured onto the roads, causing severe congestion on the highway from the southern port city of Sidon to Beirut. The Associated Press reported that it was the largest refugee movement since the 2006 war.

Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abyad said that Israeli bombing destroyed hospitals, other medical facilities, and ambulances, and that schools at all levels were ordered to close and preparations were made to receive evacuees.

Israel, which was hit the previous day by hundreds of rockets fired by Hezbollah in retaliation for the bombing of pagers and the killing of top commander Ibrahim Aqil, has threatened additional airstrikes and even raised the possibility of an all-out war with ground forces crossing the "Blue Line," the border between the two countries.

Hezbollah also said it fired rockets at three sites, including the Rafael defense company near Haifa in northern Israel, in response to Israeli bombardment, but the extent of the damage is unknown. However, local media reported that air raid warnings were sounding in several small towns in northern Israel, including Nazareth and Afula.

and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “‘I am against you, Sidon, and among you I will display my glory. You will know that I am the Lord, when I inflict punishment on you and within you am proved to be holy. I will send a plague upon you and make blood flow in your streets. The slain will fall within you, with the sword against you on every side. Then you will know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 28:22-23)

Lord, we hear the news of the dead, wounded, and displaced in the land of Lebanon due to Israel's attack against Hezbollah.

Lord, we know that you are watching over this land, which is filled with the shedding of blood and the groaning of pain due to the war, and we ask that this land may know you.

Blood is flowing in the streets and swords from all sides are wounding Israel and Lebanon, but through this situation, may these nations come to know that You are the LORD.

We believe that when Israel and Lebanon returns to You, acknowledging that You are the LORD, the suffering of the world will disappear and they will have true peace in You!

Allow Israel and Lebanon to experience the joy of salvation and be at peace with You!
